Recipe – Bara Brith!


For those of you who are unfamiliar with Bara Brith, it’s a Welsh delicacy that fills your mouth with this heavenly deliciousness that you cannot comprehend.

It’s super easy to make, and the recipe is as follows:

around 250g of mixed dried fruit
300ml of tea
200g light brown sugar
350g self raising flour
1 egg (beaten)
50g butter
2tsp mixed spice

  1. Put the mixed dried fruit and brown sugar in a bowl, then pour the tea all in the bowl. Leave it to soak over night.
  2. Heat the oven at around 160 degrees and grease a loaf tin (I used baking paper instead).
  3. Mix the flour and mixed spice in a bowl, then gradually add the soaked fruit mix.
  4. Then, add in the beaten egg before adding the butter.
  5. When everything is mixed together, put the mixture into the loaf tin.
  6. Cook in the oven for around 1 hour and 10 – 15 mins.

  1. Rhowch y ffrwythau sych a’r siwgr brown mewn powlen, cyn rhoi’r te yn y powlen. Gadewch dros nos.
  2. Rhowch y popty ymlaen ar o gwmpas 160 gradd
  3. Rhowch y blawd a speis mewn powlen a’u cymysgu. Yn raddol, ychwanegwch y cymysg ffrwythau.
  4. Yna, ychwanegwch yr wy wedi’i guro a’r menyn.
  5. Ar ol cymysgu, rhowch y cymysg mewn tin
  6. Rhowch yn y popty am oddeutu 1 awr 10 – 15 munud.
  7. Mwynhewch! A cofiwch rannu eich lluniau!
